Tarangire

Burunge Tented Lodge is situated outside Tarangire National Park, 20 minutes away from the western entrance of the park. The camp consists of a total of 30 tented suites or 10 bungalow rooms and is set amidst shady bushveld on the shores of Lake Burunge. The main building, where the bar and restaurant are also located, is built on a large wooden jetty and offers you a magnificent view over the lake from the terrace. The beautiful infinity pool with lake view is worth mentioning, where you can relax or refresh yourself after the safari. The tented suites are also built on wooden platforms and, in addition to tent walls and a thatched roof, each also has a brick bathroom. Like all the camps and lodges in the Tanganyika Wilderness Camps chain, a lot of emphasis has been placed on the use of local materials when furnishing the restaurant and guest rooms. Dark wood paired with African fabrics complete the authentic look in all areas of the camp and give you a cosy feeling at any time of the day. Like all Tanganyika Wilderness Camps, Burunge Tented Lodge is very family friendly and offers a reduced overnight rate to children under 16 who share a tent with their parents. At Burunge Tented Lodge, the overall package of number of rooms, value for money, comfort and the already mentioned great location with unique views over the lake is very right. The camp is located on the western edge of the national park and is therefore strategically well positioned to travel further north (Manyara, Ngorongoro or Serengeti) the following day.

If you would like to treat yourself to first-class safari accommodation of the highest category in beautiful nature and a private game reserve, we highly recommend spending two to three nights at Chem Chem Lodge. The lodge is located north of Tarangire National Park, between Lake Manyara and Tarangire and offers only 8 tented suites of about 100 m². These are spaced over 80 metres apart to ensure privacy for all guests. All tents have en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, a sitting area, dressing room and a terrace with great views over the savannah landscape. In the communal area of the lodge you will find the restaurant, a lounge with bar and fireplace, a small library, a spa and an outdoor deck with pool and two open fireplaces. Special here are the lodge-organised game drives in open safari vehicles, walks and horse rides led by the lodge's own guides. We recommend a minimum three-night stay to enjoy this magical place and ideally schedule it at the end of a safari, as the experience at Chem Chem Lodge is hard to top.

Tarangire Treetops is one of the more exclusive lodges in Tarangire National Park. Although this tented lodge is not located within the official boundaries of the park, but on the north-eastern edge, Treetops' spectacular architecture alone gives you the feeling of being in the middle of the African wilderness. On arrival at the main house, you are greeted by Maasai and approach the first of many baobab trees that juts right through the middle of the main house. The main house has several levels from which you have a beautiful view over the green-brown landscape and where the lounge area and swimming pool are located. The special thing about Tarangire Treetops, as the name suggests, are the rooms, some of which are built on wooden stakes about 3 metres high in baobab trees. A fine parquet floor gives you the feeling of floating above the steppe and the side walls, made only of mosquito nets, bring the sounds of Africa very close to you, especially at night. From your bed you have a 180-degree view over the treetops of Tarangire and in the morning you can watch some animals from the balcony, from a safe distance. The spacious bathrooms each offer a double shower and two washbasins. The Treetops also offers a culinary mix of local specialities and international dishes in an unforgettable ambience.

Lemala Mpingo Ridge is situated at the top of an escarpment inside the national park and offers breathtaking views of the Tarangire River and the valley below. It meets the same exceptional standards of comfort and service as the other properties in the Lemala Collection. The sixth largest national park in Tanzania, Tarangire remains somewhat off the main safari circuit, but is a very scenic park with classic African savannah, rolling green hills, forests and rivers. It is particularly famous for its large herds of elephants, superb wildlife and giant baobabs. Guests at Lemala Mpingo Ridge will enjoy a true wilderness feel and excellent game-viewing opportunities. It is both a relaxing, self-contained destination and an excellent base for a safari that also combines the Lemala properties of the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. Each of the 15 spacious tented suites have been carefully positioned to maximize not only the sensational views over the Tarangire valley but also to take advantage of cooling breezes during warm weather. Each tented suite features an en-suite bathroom, a private deck and a sunken outside lounge that convert to an afternoon siesta bed. One of the suites has two bedrooms, specially designed for friends and families traveling together. A special feature is the private outdoor bathtub - perfect for unwinding and washing off the African dust after a day on safari. The elevated main building features a large lounge and bar, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a spa and a swimming pool with breathtaking views. We recommend staying at Lemala Mpingo Ridge for at least two nights in order to enjoy the advantages of this beautiful accommodation during the day.

One of our absolute favorite places to stay in all of Tanzania, Maramboi Tented Lodge, is located on the northern edge outside of Tarangire National Park, about 25 minutes from the gate. At first glance, the location appears unfavorable for game drives in Tarangire. However, it has the advantage that you have a shorter journey to Lake Manyara or the Ngorongoro Highlands (depending on where your journey takes you) the following day, as the tented lodge is located between Tarangire and Lake Manyara. Maramboi offers you authentic African accommodation with very large tented suites built on 1 meter high wooden poles and equipped with tent walls and roof. The bathroom adjoining the room is of stone and offers running, warm water. From your own elevated balcony you can look out over the plains and watch the sunset as the animals migrate between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks. Just as spectacular as the view from your balcony is the camp's public area, some of which runs over various footbridges. A lounge area covered with a large thatched roof adjoins the large open terrace where meals are also served weather permitting. If you take a few steps out on the jetty into the savannah, you will reach the infinity pool, which, like all the other facilities, is built about 1 meter above the ground and guarantees great views at sunset. When it comes to food, the Maramboi Tented Lodge also places great value on local products and dishes: at the evening buffet, the waiters will give you a brief introduction to the country's specialities.

Nimali Tarangire is a luxury tented lodge situated on the outer northeastern edge of Tarangire National Park. Situated on a river bed and surrounded by acacia and baobab trees, the guest tents are spread along with a spacious lounge, library and main restaurant overlooking the pool and waterhole. A highlight is a photographer's hide below the waterhole, where guests at the Nimali can get very close to the animals at the waterhole without putting themselves in danger. In total, Nimali Tarangire offers only 10 tented suites. All are well spread along the river bed and each have a private terrace overlooking the river bed. The spacious decks offer guests an exceptional experience to relax and unwind, and invite uninterrupted game viewing as various wildlife roam by. Each self-contained suite is comfortably furnished with rain showers, vanity area with double sinks, desk with charging stations and a reading corner. Spacious room design with a mix of modern and earthy furniture, complemented with solid bathroom walls and wooden doors. We recommend Nimali Tarangire to guests who value a high level of comfort and excellent service while at the same time offering a very fair money for value.

Sanctuary Swala is located in a remote area inside Tarangire National Park, one of the most exciting and least visited parks in the country. In the heart of Maasai country and a remote corner of Tarangire, in total seclusion among giant acacia trees and overlooking the flat savannah, Sanctuary Swala offers a very exclusive safari experience. The scenic landscape is teeming with ancient monkey red trees, elephants and plenty of other wildlife. Built to the highest eco-friendly standards, this camp is among the park's most luxurious accommodation options. The central area of the camp is under a large baobab tree, which is found in great abundance in this area. The dining area, lounge and small library feature contemporary African design and are covered by a classic thatched roof. This entire area was built on wooden stilts to give you a great view of Tarangire's savannah. The camp has 12 pavilion style tents surrounded by many acacia trees with a nice view of the busy waterhole. The well equipped tents offer a generous 180 degree view, king-size beds, exquisite couch furniture and, as a highlight, a luxurious bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. We recommend a stay of two nights or more for safari enthusiasts who want to experience high comfort and service in the middle of the bush, close to nature.

Sangaiwe Tented Lodge is located northwest of Tarangire National Park just a few minutes' drive outside of Tarangire's official park boundaries. With 20 guest tents built on wooden platforms, the lodge has a nice size. The tents all have brick bathrooms with running water and thanks to the private terrace in front of each guest tent, Sangaiwe offers unique views over Tarangire National Park. Accommodation is in beautifully constructed tented suites on wooden platforms with a walled ensuite bathroom and dressing area. There are 18 tented suites, plus two family suites. Each elevated tent features single or double beds, a desk, ample space for luggage, and indoor and outdoor seating. All decks offer stunning views of Lake Burunge and the Rift Valley. The two family cottages consist of 2 bedrooms, one twin and one double, each with an ensuite bathroom and connected by a shared sitting area. Each room has its own veranda. If you want to refresh yourself a bit in a swimming pool after the game drive, this is also the right place to be. At the foot of the hill where the guest tents are lined up, there is an idyllic pool. We recommend Sangaiwe Tented Lodge because of the attractive price-performance ratio, its location and last but not least because of the culinary touch, as the owner is a trained chef.

Tarangire Kuro Treetops Lodge, deep in the heart of the National Park, is the newest luxury accommodation in Tarangire National Park. The lodge is strategically located on an elevated Kopje hill overlooking the Tarangire River and the Silale Valley leading to the Silale Swamp to the west. This large swamp is famous for being visited by various wildlife throughout the year as water is always available. This uniquely designed lodge consists of 25 luxury tents along the baobab tree line. Each tented suite is furnished with luxurious linens, private bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, and a private veranda with the perfect vantage point. The main pavilion is built within the Kopje rocks and consists of several comfortable lounges, viewing platforms, a fireplace, a swimming pool and an open plan dining concept in the Maasai Boma, where guests can dine under a large screen of brightly lit stars on a clear night Dine surrounded by the sounds of the bush like a wild welcome call.

Mbali Mbali Tarangire River Camp is located on the northwestern edge of the Tarangire National Park and offers you a prime view of a branch of the Tarangire River. You will have your meals in a chic dining room, which was built on stilts and has an additional and slightly elevated viewing platform via a staircase. In addition, the dining room leads out onto an open deck (with fire pit) where you can sit down and enjoy the sunset in the evening. The accommodation also has a lounge area with a bar and a small shop. The Tarangire River Camp consists of a total of 20 tents, built on wooden platforms and offering both a comfortable veranda with seating and spectacular views, as well as an en suite bathroom. The camp's 20 tents consist of 16 double safari tents and four triple or family tents. If you are looking for an authentic safari experience under traditional tent walls, offering expansive views and an enriching culture, Mbali Mbali Tarangire River Camp is the perfect choice.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge is located in the north of Tarangire National Park and is well suited for a stay of two or more nights in the park. With a total of 75 rooms, the Sopa Lodge is not only the largest accommodation in Tarangire National Park, but also the only stone built lodge. Fresh towels and a welcome drink await you as soon as you arrive in the imposing entrance hall. The lodge is built on a large cluster of 'kopjes' and provides you with a beautiful view over Tarangire National Park from the restaurant, lounge and terrace. Occasionally elephants can be seen from here, which rounds off the safari day with an aperitif after an eventful day. On the way to your room, you may be greeted by rock hyrax, which have their traditional habitat in the kopjes. The rooms have spacious bathrooms, a small sitting area in the entrance area of the room and a view over the national park. We recommend Tarangire Sopa Lodge to travelers who do not want tented accommodation and wish to spend two or more nights in Tarangire National Park. Due to the large number of rooms, this lodge is also suitable for larger groups.
