The "gem" of Arusha National Park includes the Momella Lakes, Meru Crater and Ngurdoto Crater. Elevations range from 1,525 meters at the lakes to 4,565 meters at the summit of Mount Meru. On a clear day, the peaks of Meru and Kilimanjaro can be seen from almost anywhere in the park.
Arusha National Park is famous for its abundance of birds. Other frequently seen animals are giraffe, elephant, buffalo, leopard, hyena, baboon and colobus monkey.
The movies 'Hatari' and 'Sammy going South' were filmed in this area. With a small area of approximately 137 square kilometers and only 32 kilometers from Arusha, the park can easily be visited in one day. It is a wonderful "warmer" for the other large national parks in the north such as Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro or Serengeti, as the Arusha National Park unites these parks in a "pocket-sized" landscape.
