Extended safari through the national parks
Arusha, Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti

Our safari itinerary TWIGA basically consists of the same modules as the suggested safari "Simba", but offers you a more detailed safari experience, since you don't drive and stay in a new place every day. During the safari you always stay two or more nights in the same accommodation or in the same national park and thus have more time in each park. The 14-day safari is for connoisseurs who want to take their time and therefore explore and experience northern Tanzania in detail. We recommend this tour for clients who are traveling to Tanzania for the first time and do not plan to visit Zanzibar after their safari.

Perfectly organized:Your private safari

DAY 1

Day of arrival

There are several daily flight connections from around the world to Tanzania. Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport. From the airport, your private driver, will be waiting for you, will take you to Arumeru River Lodge, 45 minutes away. Depending on your arrival time, you still have time today to visit the nearby rainforest or the village of Usa River.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Arumeru River Lodge

DAY 2

Arusha National Park

After breakfast your will meet your personal driver/guide, who will be at your disposal for the next 14 days. He will drive with you to nearby Arusha National Park. The small park at the foot of 4,565 meter high Mount Meru offers you a preview of what you will see scenically over the next two weeks. From rain forest overgrown gravel roads (Ngorongoro Highlands), to crater floors (Ngorongoro Crater) and savanna sections (Serengeti) to the Momella Lakes (Lake Manyara), made famous by the movie "Hatari" with actor John Wayne, the Arusha National Park unites all the famous parks of the north in pocket-sized format. In addition to the impressive landscape, you will of course also see many African wild animals such as giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras and, with a little luck, elephants. Around midday, enjoy a box lunch prepared by the lodge and stay until late afternoon on a game drive through the park before returning to Arumeru River Lodge.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Arumeru River Lodge

DAY 3

Tarangire National Park

Your driver/guide will be waiting for you at the reception after breakfast and load your luggage, because today you will travel on to the next accommodation and the next national park. Tarangire National Park stands for its elephant herds and the bizarre baobab trees. As Tarangire River carries water all year round, it attracts many animals to drink. There is always a chance to see a pride of lions here. In the evening you will reach your new accommodation, the magical Maramboi Tented Lodge.

DAY 4

Tarangire National Park

Also during the day you have the opportunity to absorb many spectacular animal and landscape sightings. Tarangire is also home to leopards with its many acacia trees. With a bit of luck and a good eye, you can sometimes spot one or the other tree climbing cat in the southern part of the park.  At a beautiful viewpoint above the park, you will have a packed lunch prepared by the lodge and remain on game drive throughout the day. In the evening you finally return to the Maramboi Tented Lodge with full SD cards and lasting impressions.

DAY 5

Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, head over to the closeby Lake Manyara National Park, which is known mainly for its water birds and its vast number of different bird species. The park also has impressive landscapes flanked by a forest along the west shores of the lake. The main attraction of the park are the tree climbing lions, which may escaped floods many yearrs ago. So don't be surprised if you see one or more lion paws dangling from the branches. Today again have a picnic lunch prepared by the lodge in the park. In the late afternoon you leave the national park and drive up into the Ngorongoro Highlands to Kitela Lodge where you can rest before dinner.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Kitela Lodge

DAY 6

Day of leisure

After the first safari days full of impressions and many kilometers covered, take a day off today and explore the small town of Karatu together with your driver/guide. Here you get a little insight into the typical Tanzanian everyday life and can look over the shoulders of the traders, artists and craftsmen or explore the local market.

Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon in the beautiful garden or in your cozy bungalow.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Kitela Lodge

DAY 7

Serengeti National Park

08:00 Drive to famous Serengeti, passing the Ngorongoro Crater, which you can admire on the right side from the crater rim if the clouds are not in the way. After the crater it goes downhill into the seemingly endless savannah, which the Maasai once called "Siringit" and which translated means "wide land". You dive into one of the most famous national parks on our planet. Its great variety of animals, the unique steppe landscape and last but not least the more than 2 million wildebeest and zebra make the Serengeti National Park the highlight of your safari.
For lunch you reach the Kati Kati Tented Camp, your accommodation for the next three nights.
In the afternoon another game drive through the center of the Serengeti is planned. As on the previous days, you will finally return to your accommodation at around 18:00.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Kati Kati Tented Camp

DAY 8

Serengeti National Park

06:30 We recommend that you go on an early morning game drive. You literally experience how the plains awaken and you may even witness a "kill" or see how a pride of lions eats the prey they killed the night before.
Around 09:00 return to the camp and have breakfast.
This is followed by a full day game drive where your driver/guide will take you to where the most interesting animals can be seen.
Picnic lunch in the park

DAY 9

Serengeti National Park

Depending on the season, the great migration passes certain areas of the Serengeti. A full-day game drive to the "Migration" is worthwhile, because it is this natural spectacle that makes the Serengeti so unique. Witness hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra crossing the Mara or Grumeti rivers and giving birth in the Ndutu area - always in danger of being hunted alive by predators. Since you will be on the road all day, you will also have a picnic lunch with you today, which you can eat on the way. In the evening, return to Kati Kati for your final night.

DAY 10

Serengeti National Park

After three nights in the same place, today you are relocating within the Serengeti. You can easily combine your full-day game drive with a drive to Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge, where you can explore a new area of the Serengeti that, with 15,000 square kilometers, has many unknown corners in store for you.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge

DAY 11

Serengeti National Park

On your last full day in the Serengeti, your driver/guide will once again cater to your wishes and try to bring you to the animals that you have not yet seen. As always, you can discuss your wishes regarding tee time and lunch plans (lunch box or lunch at the lodge) with him the night before. Our recommendation for this day is a sunrise balloon safari, which will ensure a successful end to your Serengeti Safari.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge

DAY 12

Serengeti National Park

After breakfast you will drive through the Serengeti and head into the southern part of the national park.
A camp-prepared lunch box is your lunch again today at a beautiful site in the South Serengeti.
Around 15:00. you leave the park and drive back up to the Ngorongoro crater rim. The evening is at your leisure at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, where you have a breathtaking view down into the crater.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Ngorongoro Serena Lodge

DAY 13

Ngorongoro Crater

08:00 As the absolute highlight of your two week safari through Tanzania's Northern parks, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. Its 21 kilometer diameter, the crater walls up to 600 meters high and last but not least the more than 25,000 wild animals make the Ngorongoro crater a unique natural spectacle. Enjoy your packed lunch at a special site and after a full day game drive in the crater, return to the Serena Lodge, offering you the perfect spot for one of the most beautiful views of the crater rim for the last time.
Dinner Bed/Breakfast Ngorongoro Serena Lodge

DAY 14

Day of departure

Today you can sleep a little longer than on previous days, as your return flight leaves Kilimanjaro Airport in the evening. Your driver/guide will take you to Arumeru River Lodge for lunch, where you will also have a day room. Well rested and refreshed, you will be taken to the airport in the early evening for your flight home.
