Frequently asked questions about safaris in Tanzania

Tanzania is an attractive destination almost all year round: from late March to mid-May, the heavy rainy season brings lower prices and fewer visitors, whilst the dry season from late May to November offers the best conditions for wildlife viewing – particularly from July to September, with the spectacular wildebeest river crossings on the Mara River. From late September until Christmas, you can also expect excellent safaris and fewer crowds, and from mid-December onwards, the wildebeest calving season begins, whilst the Christmas holidays are less recommended due to high prices and fully booked accommodation. The short rainy season in November (sometimes extending into January) is usually brief, and from mid-January to late March, dry, warm days provide ideal conditions – particularly for safaris and a beach holiday in Zanzibar.

On safari, it’s best to wear light clothing in muted colours such as beige, khaki or olive. Layering is ideal, as it can be cool in the mornings and evenings but warm during the day. Sturdy shoes, a sun hat, sun cream and a light rain jacket should also be packed.

We recommend allowing 7 to 10 days for a safari in Tanzania. This gives you plenty of time to explore various national parks at your own pace, experience the wildlife to the full and enjoy your trip without feeling rushed. It’s important to us not to rush from park to park – after all, it’s the special moments and the chance to take things at a leisurely pace that make a safari in Tanzania unforgettable.

Tanzania has two rainy seasons: the short rainy season from November to December and the long rainy season from March to May. Safaris are still possible during these months. The countryside is particularly green and vibrant at this time, many animals are giving birth, and the national parks are significantly less crowded. The rain showers are usually brief and rarely disrupt game drives. We do not organise any safaris in April due to the poor road conditions.

Yes, Zanzibar is the ideal way to round off a safari in Tanzania. After eventful days in the wilderness, the beaches, the warm sea and the relaxed atmosphere offer the perfect chance to unwind. The island can easily be combined with a visit to the national parks via a short flight.

As we tailor every safari individually, there is no fixed package price. The price depends heavily on the time of year, the number of travellers and the chosen accommodation category. As a rough guide for a high-quality, privately led safari including vehicle, guide, national park fees and full board, you should expect to pay around 500 to 900 euros per person per day.

Yes, that’s no problem at all. However, as all our safaris are privately guided (you have the jeep and the guide all to yourself), as a solo traveller you’ll bear the full cost of the vehicle and the guide. This makes a solo safari more expensive than travelling as a couple or as a family group.

Yes, absolutely – a safari is an unforgettable adventure for children. However, we design family trips fundamentally differently from tours for adults: we choose accommodation with swimming pools, plan shorter driving times and ensure a minimum stay of two nights at each accommodation.
