Lake Manyara
National Park

The bird paradise on the edge of the Rift Valley

One of the most beautiful places in Africa, Lake Manyara National Park nestles in the Great Rift Valley basin. As soon as you enter the park, you are struck by the dense, green vegetation and the many tall, mature trees that are home to hordes of baboons and other monkeys. Further inland, the forest thins out, gives way to grass steppe and marshland, and then leads to the Manyara Salt Lake itself. It's no secret that Lake Manyara National Park is especially popular with bird lovers. With over 400 different species, this region is one of Africa's most diverse bird habitats, the highlights of which are the pink flamingos, pelicans and storks.

At the southern end of the park are the hot sulfur springs called Maji-Moto. The most famous animals in the park are the tree lions, who spend most of the day perched on the branches of the acacia trees. The park is also home to buffalo, elephant, giraffe, impala, zebra, hippo and plenty of smaller animals to see in the course of a single day.
